Flamenco Latino: The 2022 Más Allá Series showcased 3 Performances

August 4 & 5 at Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning and October 14 at PS 212Q

After being disrupted for two years by the Corona Virus, Flamenco Latino returned for its 2022 Más Allá Series (“Way Beyond”) with Live, In-Person shows in collaboration with Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning & PS212. Directors Aurora Reyes and Basilio Georges presented the various programs. The theme was “Choreographies and Collaboration,” featuring Aurora’s group choreographies, and the debut of “Quejillo/Shout,” a Flamenco/Hip Hop fusion piece, created in collaboration with Paige Stewart “Queen TuT” + Lady Katie and The Kingdom Dance Company.

Flamenco Latino presented concerts presenting choreography and collaborations with Paige “Queen TuT” Stewart + Lady Katie of The Kingdom Dance Company. We presented Flamenco and Tap Improvisation with Omar Edwards, Flamenco Latino dancers Aurora Reyes, Julissa Cadenillas, Natalia Starkova, Malia Fay Vazquez; and musicians Basilio Georges, Danny Rivera and Hamed Traore. Four live streamed short performances illustrating the shaping of select repertoire were  presented by Flamenco Latino, followed by a final watch party of edited videos of all 2022 Más Allá Series performances. There was also “Flamenco and Tap Improvisation,” featuring Aurora with the dynamic tap dancer and “foot musician,” Omar Edwards. They are accompanied by Basilio Georges’ original music which infuses Flamenco with elements of Jazz, Blues and Salsa.

This project is made possible (in part) with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant program, a program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature and administered by Flushing Town Hall, and (in part) by the Queens Council on the Arts with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
